Homework
1.
Literacy Map:
For homework each
night please encourage your child to print 1 line of each spelling word and 1-2
sentences using these words. As they are
printing the words they should be making the sounds for each grapheme they
print. When completing their sentences,
students should remember to start with an uppercase, end with punctuation, and
include juicy words (descriptive vocabulary).

Reading:
We are excited to
announce that Grade 1 students will now have access to an online reading
program called Raz-Kids
for daily home reading. We ask that your
child read each night for a minimum of 10 minutes. They are also welcome to continue taking the
paper books from school in addition to using the online program. Please have your child listen to the book, read the book, and then complete the comprehension quiz
(independently). Remember to allow your child
time when solving unknown words.
Encourage them to use single and double graphemes, think about what
would make sense, use the picture clues, and skip the word and continue reading
to solve the word.
3.Tell
and Show:
Please note that
some weeks we get fairly busy with daily learning tasks and may not have time
to get to every student’s Tell and Show.
If your child is unable to share on their day please reassure them that
they will get to share the following day.
This week, students will finish up sharing letter R and begin sharing
letter S. Please allow your child to
complete this work independently.
Thank you to those of you who have been doing this already. If you are concerned we will not be able to
read your child’s writing please just scribe underneath what they have
written.
