Homework
1. Literacy Map:
We are now starting again with learning spelling words.  We will continue with the two groups: blue and green.  Please check your child’s book to see which group they are in and the spelling homework.  Please have your child print 1-2 lines of each spelling word and 1-2 sentences using these words.

Green Group (Ms. Beechey):
Monday: Pete, time
Tuesday: like, bike
Wednesday:  ride, write
Thursday: Quiz
Friday: No School for Students

Blue Group (Mrs. McGivern)
Monday: how, outside, inside, today, if
Tuesday: will, up, other, look
Wednesday: read, book, school, teacher
Thursday: Quiz
Friday: No School for Students

2. Reading:
Your child should read independently every night both silently as well as aloud.  After your child is done reading their book, please ask them questions about what they have read.  Remember to allow your child time to solve words on their own before jumping in to help.  One of the strategies your child should be using is to use their double graphemes (ee, th, sh, ar, ch, etc.) when sounding out.  They should also ask themselves if what they have read makes sense, and also picture clues.

3.Tell and Show:
We are doing letter O for Tell and Show this week. Please continue to have your child draw and write independently.  We are amazed at the writing and drawing that students have been doing.  Way to go!

4. In addition to Mrs. Mann’s song, we will be learning and practicing this song for our Gr. 1 assembly also. Please practice with your child at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN7gdw38x-8

Ask Me About:
Music:
What is the song that Mrs. Mann is teaching that we are going to be singing at the Gr. 1 assembly?  Show me the actions!

Virtue:
Kindness is our virtue this month.  Four of the Grade 1 classes (Benner, Dalderis, McGivern, Beechey) will be presenting at the kindness assembly on February 20th.
Retell the story, “Kindness is Cooler Mrs. Ruler.”
What are some things that you can do to show kindness at home, school, and in the community?

Reminders:
 1.    For Valentines Day this year we are asking that no commercial valentines cards be handed out.  Students are learning how to write kindness notes in class in conjunction with our virtue of the month, Kindness.

  2.     Grade 1 family movie night is now SOLD OUT.  There will be no more tickets available to purchase, any movie order forms will be sent back home. There will be NO tickets at the door for purchase. We are at capacity for this event.  Thank you for your support.

  3.    If you would like to come in and volunteer please email Mrs. McGivern or Ms. Beechey.  We could really use some help with reading from 8:25-9:00am each morning or at the end of each day from 2:45-3:00pm.  Friday afternoons would also be especially helpful as we usually do art!
