Homework

1.  Green Group: Please prepare for tomorrows quiz.

Blue Group: We played a game called Missing Letter Match on kidsspell.com.  This is a great website to practice the spelling words while playing games.  You can enter any spelling list you want.  Click here to play games using this weeks words: kidsspell.com. We also did a practice quiz so students could see which words they need to review for the real quiz tomorrow. 

If you are ever unsure of the homework because you can’t access the blog, please see your child’s notebook. 

GREEN GROUP words for the week:

Monday: dad, brother, sister

Tuesday: get, from, or

Wednesday: sit, word, today

Thursday: Review for the quiz

Friday: Quiz

BLUE GROUP words for the week:

The 1^st job of final silent e is the focus for this weeks words.  (Please see the handout stapled into your child’s book, which explains the rule.)  Please also see the handout for the correct markings.

Monday: name, game, came, same, made

Tuesday: delete, time, like, ride

Wednesday: write, alone, more, home, rode

Thursday: use, cute, and review for the quiz

Friday: Quiz

2.  Read for 20 minutes everyday.  This may be a library book, home reading book, or a book online.  Comprehension is the overall goal of reading, so please make time to talk with your child about what they are reading.  You can ask them to retell the story, talk about character emotions, or even discuss important information within the pictures.

3. Tell and Show: Tell and Show is a great way to help your child develop their drawing and writing skills.  Please allow your child to draw and colour their picture on their own.  You may help your child come up with the clues for their object.  Please have your child write at least one of the sentences independently.  If you are concerned that we won’t be able to read it due to the “kid spelling” please just scribe for your child underneath.

McGivern: What did I write about today? How did I do on my writing today?  Was it a 1, 2, 3, or 4?  Did I write sentences that made sense?  Did I include juicy words, finger spaces, start with an uppercase, and remember end punctuation?

How can I make more responsible choices tomorrow?

Reminders:

   1.    The hill and area surrounding the school is very icy.  Many students are sliding down the hills before, during, and after school.  Please remind your child that this is not okay as it is extremely unsafe and they could get hurt.

   2.    Please see the hand out that went home today about the Grade 1 Celebration of Learning and photography/DVD ordering.  We are asking that parents please not bring in any video recorders or cameras to the performance.  We want the performance to be enjoyed by the entire audience without disruption of any kind.  If you have any questions about this please email your child’s teacher.  Here is the link to the digital order form: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/6df45641-ca7b-4dc5-b742-e9c0249e7699

   3.    ***Grade 1 Celebration of Learning Information***

·      Students will need a plain coloured shirt (t-shirt is recommended) in one of the following colours: yellow, brown, orange, or red.  Your child must bring their shirt to school by Friday December 12^th as students will be photographed in their dance attire prior to our Thursday performance.  Please send your child’s t-shirt in a bag labeled with their name.  Your child will also need to wear black pants/tights on both Wednesday December 17^th and Thursday December 18^th.

·      If your child will not be present for the evening performance on Thursday December 18^th at 7pm please let your child’s teacher know.

·      On the evening of Thursday December 18^th please drop your child to their classroom by 6:30pm.  At the end of the performance you will pick up your child from their classroom.

·      There are two performances for parents on Thursday December 18th: Afternoon (1-2pm) and Evening (7-8pm). Each child is allowed to bring 4 family members.  We are encouraging people to come to the afternoon performance if they are available.

   4.    Please return the blue form regarding Digital Learning.  We are still missing many of these forms.  If you require another form please email your child’s teacher.
