Homework
1. Please have your child complete 2 lines of each double grapheme with 5 on each line in the blue book labeled Literacy Map.  Your child will now be working in their blue notebook each day at school.  They will then do the exact same printing directly underneath at home for homework.  Please have your child print the word “homework” so that we can easily identify what was done at school and what was done at home.  Please make sure this book comes to school each day.

You will notice that we are reviewing the same graphemes as last week.  The graphemes were very challenging so we are spending an extra week ensuring we have a strong knowledge base.

Monday: ow: how, low
                  ou: noun, your, you, young

Tuesday: au: sauce (“au” that we do not use at the end of English words)
aw: saw (“aw” that we do use at the end of English words)

Wednesday: ew: threw, few (“ew” that we do use at the end of English words)
ui: fruit, suit (“ui,” “ui” that we do not use at the end of English
words because English words do not end in i)

Thursday: Today we reviewed the graphemes that we studied all week.  Please give your child a mini quiz tonight.  Tell them the grapheme sound (in a random order) with the rule and have them record the answer in their book. E.g. “ew” that we do use at the end of English words like in the words threw and few.

2.  Read for 20 minutes everyday.  This could be a library book, home reading or a book online.  It is beneficial to have your child read their home reading book more than once.  This helps to improve fluency.  Have your child practice “check for understanding.”  They read a few pages, stop, and retell what they have read so far.  If they can’t tell you what they have read then they need to go back and reread.
