Homework
1.
Literacy Map:
We will now be
taking a break from spelling words to begin learning more of the Literacy Map
graphemes. Please refer to the handout
that went home to see which graphemes we are now learning and the spelling rule.
It is recommended
that your child print two lines of each grapheme and one line for the word
(total of 3 lines per grapheme). As your
child is printing it is very important that they make the grapheme sound to
help create a connection between the oral & written. Your child does not
need to know the word for the quiz. The
word is provided only as an example of how the grapheme is used.
When reading with
your child this is a great time to pick out the graphemes that we are studying
as well as graphemes we have already studied.
Monday:
ey (they, hockey) English words / eigh (weigh)
Tuesday:
ei (ceiling, veil, forfeit) / igh (right)
Wednesday: ie (movie, tie) / kn (knot)
Thursday: gn (gnaw, assign) / wr (write) / Review for
the quiz tomorrow
Friday: Quiz on the graphemes
2.
Reading:
Read for 20 minutes
everyday. This may be a library book,
home reading book, or a book online. It
is beneficial to have your child read their book both silently to themselves as
well as out loud. Remember to allow your
child time to solve words on their own before jumping in to help.
3.Tell
and Show:
Tell and Show will
be starting up again this week with letter K.
Please remember how important it is that your child begin writing the
sentences and drawing pictures on their own.
You may help your child come up with the object for the specific letter
and talk about the clues. If you are
concerned that we won’t be able to read it due to the “kid spelling” please
just scribe for your child underneath.
Don’t forget to start sentences with an uppercase letter and end them
with punctuation (.?!).
Ask Me About:
Science:
What questions did I come up with about the season of Winter?
What are 3 things you learned from the discussion, story, and video?
Virtue:
Retell the story The Truth Pops Out
-What happened at the beginning, middle, end?
-How does this story relate to the virtue of the month?
Here is a song related to the virtue of the month. Enjoy!
Reminders:
1. We would like to extend a warm welcome
to Ms. Beechey who will be now be teaching Mrs. Schroeder’s class! If you have any questions or would like to
contact her please email her at slbeechey@cbe.ab.ca.
2. January calendar went home today
