Homework
1.
Literacy Map:
We will now be
taking a break from spelling words to begin learning more of the Literacy Map
graphemes. Please refer to the handout
that went home to see which graphemes we are now learning and the spelling rule.
It is recommended
that your child print two lines of each grapheme and one line for the word
(total of 3 lines per grapheme). As your
child is printing it is very important that they make the grapheme sound to
help create a connection between the oral & written. Your child does not
need to know the word for the quiz. The
word is provided only as an example of how the grapheme is used.
When reading with
your child this is a great time to pick out the graphemes that we are studying
as well as graphemes we have already studied.
Monday:
ph (phrase) / dge (judge)
Tuesday:
oe (toe) / tch (catch, watch, butcher)
Wednesday: ti (option) / si (mission, division)
Thursday: ci (social) / ough (though,
through, rough, cough, thought, bough)
Friday: Quiz on the graphemes
2.
Reading:
Read for 20 minutes
everyday. This may be a library book,
home reading book, or a book online. It
is beneficial to have your child read their book both silently to themselves as
well as out loud. Remember to allow your
child time to solve words on their own before jumping in to help. This time could also include flash card
practice.
3.Tell
and Show:
We are doing letter
L for Tell and Show this week. Please continue to have your child draw and
write independently. Thank you so much
to those who have already been doing this.
You may help your child come up with the object for the specific letter
and talk about the clues. If you are
concerned that we won’t be able to read it due to the “kid spelling” please
just scribe for your child underneath.
Don’t forget to start sentences with an uppercase letter and end them
with punctuation (.?!).
Ask Me About:
Writing:
My winter poem: What can you smell, taste, touch, see, and hear in the
winter?
Virtue:
Mrs. Goldenberg’s visit
-What story did she read?
-What did you learn?
Here is a song related to the virtue of the month. Enjoy!
Reminders:
1. Please remind your child that it is
important to bring their library books on their assigned day. Many students now have books overdue. Please ask your child whether they were one
of these students. If your child misses
their library day we are happy to allow them to change books on another day.
2. Two notices went home today: Child
Find Canada & Gr.1 Movie Night
3. Please ensure that your child is
dressed appropriately for the weather (jacket, snow pants, boots, Hat, gloves). We recommend that you label your child’s
items. This way if they become lost or
misplaced they can be returned quickly to the right owner.
