Homework
1. Literacy Map:
We will now be taking a break from spelling words to begin learning more of the Literacy Map graphemes.  Please refer to the handout that went home to see which graphemes we are now learning and the spelling rules.
It is recommended that your child print two lines of each grapheme and one line for the word (total of 3 lines per grapheme).  As your child is printing it is very important that they make the grapheme sound to help create a connection between the oral & written.

When reading with your child this is a great time to pick out the graphemes that we are studying as well as graphemes we have already studied.

Monday: ey (they, hockey) / eigh (weigh)
Tuesday: ei (ceiling, veil, forfeit) / igh (right)
Wednesday: ie (movie, tie) / kn (knot)
Thursday: gn (gnaw, assign) / wrwrite)
Friday: Quiz

2. Reading:
Read for 20 minutes everyday.  This may be a library book, home reading book, or a book online.  Comprehension is the overall goal of reading, so please make time to talk with your child about what they are reading.  You can ask them to retell the story events in order (first, next, then, last), talk about character emotions, or even discuss important information within the pictures.

3.Tell and Show:
Tell and Show will be starting up again this week with letter K.  Please remember how important it is that your child begin writing the sentences and drawing pictures on their own.  You may help your child come up with the object for the specific letter and talk about the clues.  If you are concerned that we won’t be able to read it due to the “kid spelling” please just scribe for your child underneath.  Don’t forget to start sentences with an uppercase letter and end them with punctuation (.?!).

Ask Me About:
Math:
What math center did I go to today?
What are 2 different ways to make 10?

Reminders:
   1.    We would like to extend a warm welcome to Ms. Beechey who will be now be teaching Mrs. Schroeder’s class!  If you have any questions or would like to contact her please email her at slbeechey@cbe.ab.ca.

   2.    Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather (Jacket, Snow Pants, Boots, Hat, Gloves).  We recommend labeling your child’s items.  This way if they become lost or misplaced they can be returned quickly to the right owner.
